As you know, I am not a big fan of reality television—especially ones that feature sisters acting the fool. Although they may be like a train wreck that you can’t look away from, they’re also a tremendous time suck. There are some shows, however, that are exceptions to that rule. At least that ’s what fans of The Biggest Loser keep telling me. I have decided to tune in to the new season of the show that starts tomorrow (1/6) but not strictly for altruistic reasons.
Why? I just found out that my friend Nicole and her fiance Damien are going to be one of the couples on this season’s show. Okay, you all know that it takes a certain amount of boldness to get on a scale in front of other people and expose your weight. Hell, I had issues getting weighed in a Weight Watchers meeting. But getting on a scale on television? I don’t know if I can do it. But Nicole and Damien have boldly stepped up to this challenge along with 9 other teams in an effort to change their lives. That is a much better reason than becoming Flavor Flav’s woman, or flashing your supposed wealth as a housewife, don’t you think? This may improve the length and quality of their lives.
So not only am I going to tune in, I am going to do recaps of the show weekly so we can track Nicole and Damien’s progress (oh, and everyone else’s too). You should check them out too, perhaps you’ll be inspired to do something for yourself.
On this video, Nicole and Damien tell us why they decided to do the show:

Hey there!
It’s good to see wholesome black couples on reality t.v. who are not acting like baffoons! I am sure your friends will be an inspiration to so many couples who have just let themselves go over the years. Self-neglect is something that ALL OF US need to be very attentive to in this new year!
Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
