If you are not one who watches a lot of cable television you probably know Niecy Nash best as Bernie Mac’s other sister (not the crack head) on his eponymous show. Or as perhaps Jacuzzi, the security guard who makes a hilarious cameo in Cedric the Entertainer’s Code Name: The Cleaner. (Okay not exactly, Oscar-worthy fare but totally stupid fun). Anyway, while some may think of her as a funny chick who doesn’t work that often, actually she has spent the last five years as a double-threat and now that has paid off with an additional prime-time show.
When Nash’s new Fox show, Do Not Disturb premiered this week, she was actually competing against herself. That’s the same time that her Style Network show, Clean House airs. There she has been dispensing her sassy brand of deliverance from “mayhem and foolshness” since 2004. But before that she strapped on some padding in strategic places to start her long-term role as Deputy Raineesha Williams on Reno 911 on Comedy Central.
While shows like Girlfriends and Half and Half have bitten the dust, Nash has apparently been racking up some solid credentials and loyal fans—making her a sister worth taking a risk on. So Fox decided to build one of its new fall comedies around her. (Don’t be fooled and think that Jerry O’Connell is the star. He was cast as the last minute as the supposedly suave hotel manager.) Among this ensemble cast, Nash stands out. In fact, she carries material that should be better. Here’s hoping that the show last long enough for this funny sister girl to become a triple threat.

I so love Neicy Nash! I’ve been watching her since her debut on Clean House and she is more than the host she’s the in house psychologist and the main reason the show is a hit! Boy oh boy I feel like she’s my girlfriend or something. Such a natural born funny lady.

Nash is fab on Reno 911, I love her! I have read some so-so reviews of the new show Do Not Disturb, but mostly because her sidekick, Jerry O’Connell isn’t a strong comedic character on the show–he’s got too much of “Nice guy” written all over him. I don’t think he can pull of the one-liners as well. Anyhoo, I hope the show does well for Neicy’s benefit.
