On the day before Mother’s Day, Wanda Sykes was taking no prisoners at The White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC. But truthfully, she had every reason to be home instead of making mincemeat out of Rush Limbaugh. Sykes’ publicist announced yesterday that the comic and her wife Alex, as the proud parents of twins Olivia Lou and Lucas Claude who were born April 27th. Congratulations Wanda!
Until last November, the “Pootie Tang” alum kept her personal life to herself (translation: my sexual orientation is my business). But Prop 8 changed all that and the sister came out strong at a rally in Vegas last November. (Wanda and Alex tied the knot in October.) But I am kind of glad that Wanda and her partner decided to enjoy their new additions for a few weeks before making a public announcement. By waiting until after her Washington DC appearance they successfully skirted all the questions and can retain some level of privacy.
In the meantime, CBS is still trying to decide the fate of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” on which Wanda has a nice co-starring role. The odds look pretty good but if CBS passes, rumor has it the ABC is waiting in the wings. I know little Olivia and Lucas aren’t going to starve but it would be nice if their Mom Wanda had a steady check coming in.

You know, I LOVE Wanda Sykes. I didn’t really appreciate her until I saw her recurringly on the Ellen Show, where she wow’d me with how ridiculously funny she is! And I think her character on the New Adventures of Old Christine is brilliant. I really can’t get enough of Wanda, so thanks for this post (and letting me know about the CBS/ABC thing!).
