Tracy Reese can do no wrong in my eyes. Based on her beautiful and oh-so-fabulous collection presented yesterday, I will be broke all next spring/summer. Her collection, which was inspired by nature, had all the makings of a perfect collection: amazing prints, smart basics, girly dresses, lightweight knits and that trademark feminine shine that always beams from Tracy’s designs.
In my humble opinion, her painterly floral prints were the stars of the show. What girl doesn’t want to look like they are floating in a field of flowers? Or, literally become a lovely Lilly altogether? One dress in particular stole my heart–it had a multi panelled full skirt and Swarovski crystal jewelled bodice. Perfection!
I was able to catch up with Tracy after the show and congratulate her on yet another flawless season. It’s wonderful to see a successful black designer really holding their own in this homogeneous industry. Tracy doesn’t need to play the race card, she is a genuine force to be recokened with. Tracy’s collections are not only beautiful, but they are also consistent. She knows what she is good at…classic feminine mystique….and she gives it to you in new and exciting ways every season. Bravo!

I also must add that I love Tracy’s family and the great support they give her. Every season, Tracy’s mother and father are present on her front-row and shower her with flowers when she appears for her bow. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Tracy’s mother, Pat aka “Mama Reese,” over the past several years of attending the show. We have even become avid pen pals. It’s not hard to see why those Reese women are class-acts!
Here are some backstage action shots (Brandy and Andre Leon Talley were there!) and just a few of my favorite looks from her show (which will all be in my closet next spring…I might have to blow an entire months rent on that floral trench coat. But, I’m in LOVE):
