You’d think that disgraced former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick would keep a low profile for a little while after he got out of jail. (Christine Beatty sure has.) But that’s not going to happen. Instead, this brother continues to use faulty reasoning to explain his bad behavior. Here’s a hint: Kwame, so far it hasn’t work. And although he may not be able to hold public office for a while he still seems to keep his name and face in the spotlight.
The Detroit Free Press reports today that Kilpatrick doesn’t believe there was anything wrong with using one million dollars from his campaign war chest to pay for his legal defense. One of the lawyers who was paid from this fund had the nerve to write a letter with this insane reasoning to the Michigan Supreme Court.
We’ll have to wait until July to find out if the Secretary of State, Terri Lynn Land, buys this warped reasoning.(That means he’s bound to stay in the news until then.) If not, the brother will have to pay some fines as well as taxes associated with missuse of campaign funds.
Meanwhile, the people of the Motor City are going to the polls today to elect a new mayor to fill out the rest of Kilpatrick’s term. They will choose between Ken Cokrel, Jr. whose been doing the job since Kilpatrick resigned last fall and Detroit businessman Dave Bing.
But even with a new mayor in place the people of Detroit are having a hard time shaking the spectre of Kwame Kilpatrick. Maybe someone should start a campaign called ” Kwame Sit Your @*# Down”. Enough is enough.
