I’ve got to hand it to Donald Trump, season after season, he manages to get well known folks (some more notable than others) to sign up for his reality show ridiculousness and the possibility of being ‘fired’ on his “Celebrity Apprentice”. And for good or for bad our folks are always in the mix. The San Francisco Examiner reports that Sinbad, Holly Robinson Peete, Darryl Strawberry and Selita Ebanks have all signed up along with the likes of Cyndi Lauper and former Illinois Govenor Rod Blagojevich for the new round of shenanigans which start in March. All I can say is that although everyone is competing for their respective charities, it is still sad to think that the only way for us to regularly see Robinson Peete and Sinbad on television is on this reality show.
Since she premiered as baby-faced undercover cop Officer Judy Hoffs on “21 Jump Street”, Robinson Peete, has been a steady part of our television lives. I can’t think of another sister who had so many (mostly) sucessful shows from “Hanging With Mr. Cooper” and “For Your Love” to “Like Family” and “Love Inc.”. But because reality shows continue to take up a larger percentage of airtime there seem to be fewer shows available to cast her (although she is tied to a Lauren Graham project called “The Bridget Show”). I guess this automatically increases the likelihood that she’d end up in a non-scripted project. But that somehow seems like a waste of her talent.
Sinbad, on the other hand, needs this gig. After making the state of California’s list of top-ten tax evaders in April things went decidely downhill for the brother who starred in the hilarious flick “Houseguest” back in 1995. The Detroit News reported that he filed for bankruptcy last month because he can’t pay the over $8 million he owes to the IRS. But instead of Trump’s free-for-all it would be nice to see Sinbad land a regular hosting gig on game show a la Drew Carey in “The Price is Right” or Wayne Brady who’s the host of “Let’s Make a Deal”. A steady check would go a long way to getting him out of the hole.
Strawberry and Ebanks seem to round out the cast because Trump likes to have former sports stars and models in the mix. Here’s to hoping that Strawberry is still clean and sober so he won’t show his behind like Dennis Rodman did. Not sure what Ebanks will bring to the party (besides the likelihood that some of her model friends might make an appearance). But unfortunately, none of these folks are going to get me to tune in come March. This idea jumped the shark long ago but I do hope that this gig leads to better opportunities for them—especially Sinbad and Robinson Peete.
