Obama Would Win A Global Election But Is In For The Fight Of His Life Here

If only the citizens of the world could cast their votes in this upcoming Presidential election. According to a recent poll conducted by the BBC, of the 22 nations queried, all of them would prefer the Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama over Senator John McCain.

It seems the other nations of the world didn’t drink the Kool-Aid consumed by many who watched the Republican National Conventional. (And may be just as spooked by the spectre of the McCain/Palin ticket and its Stepfordism as we are).  In fact, only one in five people believed that McCain would be an improvement over George W. Bush.

And it is not just the NATO allies that feel this way. More than 23,000 people took this survey and countries including Poland, Brazil, the Philippines, and Turkey were included along with the usual suspects like Russia, France, and Australia among others.

So what does that mean for us? Not much unless we can get people who can actually cast a vote here  to wake up and act. And time is of the essence. The RNC has gotten into the groove with its negative campaign ads. The latest touting Obama’s “lipstick on a pig” comment as a swipe at Sarah Palin (although McCain himself used the same statement when Hillary was in the race).

And while there is all of this hoopla surrounding which way white women will vote (and yes, that is a real factor), there is that matter of the estimated 8 million black folks who have not registered to vote. Too bad there isn’t a drink called Reality Check that we could give out to educate folks. Instead, we have to do it the old-fashioned way and canvas the barber shops and beauty salons as well as the places folks congregate on the corner.

And don’t just assume that sister together sister standing next to you is registered too. Go ahead and ask just to be sure.
