Do You Remember The Time?

Tags: , ,

Yes, there are the lyrics of one of Michael Jackson’s hits but I am literally asking whether you remember the group, Morris Day and The Time. Earlier this year they created buzz by appearing on The Grammy’s and now they are really back together and trying to make a comeback. They’ll be  appearing at the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas for two runs this summer. The same city Prince caused a stir with his limited run a couple of years ago.

There was a great article on them in USA Today about the group’s bid to bring that Minneapolis sound back in vogue. And I have got to root for them besides my fondness for the interplay between Morris and Jerome (still love that Jerome to this day) as well as the talented Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I was also reminded that The Time is  a throwback to groups like Earth, Wind & Fire and Parliament who can do it all (sing, dance, play instruments and entertain).  Furthermore,  Morris Day zeroes in on why the time is right for their comeback he say, “We’re clean, we look good, we sound good, we’re putting down real music.” And they’re sexy too (at least according to Day). Their music would be a change of pace from graphic misogynist lyrics and putdowns we hear these days.

So here’s to hoping that Morris Day and The Time take Vegas by storm and get wide radio play when their new CD is completed and is ready for the airwaves. (And Prince takes the noble road and releases that “lost” album). Oh-wee-oh-wee-oh indeed!
