Forbes just released one of its highly anticipated annual lists, ‘The Celebrity 100′. While a lot of attention is being paid to the fact that Angelina Jolie managed to bump Oprah from her number 1 spot that’s not what got my attention. Frankly, I am much more interested in the fact that Beyoncé Knowles ranked an impressive number 4 (above Kobe, Tiger, Tyler Perry and her hubby Jay-Z who ranked, 32).
Our little Bey is estimated to rake in about $87 million this year when you combine all her enterprises which the magazine lists as “publishing and music sales, touring and other performances, film work, her fashion collection and endorsement deals.” Are you tired yet? I am. But the fact is that 27 year-old Beyoncé is just getting started.
I guess that none of us are all that surprised. She was raised by the quintessential stage parents, Matthew and Tina—who’ve conditioned their daughter to work at an almost superhuman pace. While we sometimes get overwhelmed by Beyoncé’s overexposure this is all part of her parent’s master plan (sinister laugh goes right there). In other words the idea is for Beyoncé to be ubiquitous (backlash be damned). And there’s no doubt that their plan is paying off (quite well).
To accompany the list, the magazine also includes an in-depth look at the Beyoncé Empire. Let me just say that following her around for a couple of days probably seemed like a really opulent and endless marathon for the reporter. Their verdict: Bey is a perfectionist (who also has a charitable heart) who can do way more than us mere mortals.
Obviously there is a lot to love or at the very least respect about the way Beyoncé handles her business. Okay personally, I would rather see her abandon her acting pursuits (and I know I’m not alone). But even though I may skip her movies I still have to admire her unswerving determination to be a success in everything she does. So Bey keep doing the damn thing, maybe next year you’ll knock Angelina out of the number 1 spot.
