Money Won’t Take Your Mind Out of the Ghetto

As I watch this crazy saga of 50 Cents and his baby mama, Shaniqua Tompkins, play out  all I can do is shake my head. As accusations fly back and forth about who started the fire their behavior reveals the truth: no matter how much money that young brothers and sisters make they still can’t get their thoughts out of the ghetto. We lived through the age of Ghetto Fabulous now we are seeing something that resembles Ghetto Foolishness from so-called celebrities.

Michael Vicks sits in jail because he thought being a big man  in dog fighting circles (along with his boys from back home)  was still a good idea. T.I. and Remy Ma thought they could play with guns. Foxy Brown and Little Kim thought they could write their own rules. And the list goes on and on.

Then there are the sisters who latch on to ball players and rappers thinking that they will change their fortunes and future by giving them a child. Some of them become serial celebrity  baby mamma’s and think that’s a good idea. Their only goal is to live off those support checks until their children turn 18. Who knows what they’ll be doing after that?

My concern is that these fools are adding a another layer of unrealistic desire for our young people. They are seeing these folks and saying I can be famous and still be a thug or I can get the money if I have the right man’s baby. When will this madness stop?
