Last month, I wrote on a small blog post about Bernice and MLK III suing their baby brother Dexter because they wanted the books of The Estate of Martin Luthur King opened. There was talk of financial misappropriation. Now, their little brother strikes back and has countersued his siblings.
And unfortunately, the accusations continue. Seems like neither Bernice and MLK III can be considered innocent parties since they were removed from their positions as CEO and Secretary by the Board of Directors. And get this, each of them has formed their own foundations to further muddy the waters concerning their parent’s legacy: The Coretta Scott King Foundation and Realizing the Dream, Inc. respectively.
Now it looks like we are going to watch these grown folks act like children with petty accusations being slung back and forth. Who would have ever thought that the week before his “I Have A Dream Speech,” marks its 45th anniversary that we’d be watching his kids air their dirty laundry instead. That’s a crying shame.
Now that Dexter has decided to tell his side of the story, my question is: What are the two siblings that started the lawsuit really after? Is it sour grapes for being ousted or something more? We tend to elevate our icons onto pedestals (whether they deserve it or not) and the surviving King children were up there sort of by default. They are doing a good job of knocking each other off.
And now they’ve got to stop the madness. The three of them need to lock themselves in a room with a mediator and work it out. This is not what your parents or your sister Yolanda would have wanted. And quite frankly, we don’t need to see it either.

Thank you for writing this post. I totally agree with you. I pray that they are all able to work out their differences. They appear deepily rooted. I get the feeling that their differences have some other motivations. Who knows? I will share your commentary with BAP Living members. Enjoy your day!

I would have to agree.
