File this under revenge is sweet. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Jennifer Hudson is set to return to “American Idol.” Now I am not saying that our girl JHud has been thinking about telling Randy, Paula and Simon (yes, especially Simon) ‘I told you so.’ Instead she has been building a fabulous career that in itself shows that these judges really are not the arbiters of true talent.
Jennifer competed in Season 3 (the one in which Fantasia took the prize) and she came in seventh. Side note: Her seventh place finish does make you wonder what happened to other five people who stayed on the show longer. Because I can’t recall their names. Yet, she is arguably the most successful “American Idol” alum to date. Sure Kelly Clarkson has sold tons of CDs, but Jennifer has those little awards called Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy.
The date of her return hasn’t been released yet. But rumor has it that Jennifer has already taped her performance. (So did Ruben Studdard, whose career has unfortunately hit a brick wall). When Fox starts promoting the hell out of it I’ll be sure to tune in (I abandoned “Idol” a few years back).
Perhaps Jennifer’s presence may have done something to lift the spirits of this season’s of the sister with a voice, Lil Rounds who apparently got no love for her “Heatwave” performance on Motown night this week. Although Lil seems to have the talent to take top honors, this misstep may be the beginning of the end for her. But she should take heart, all she has to do is look at Jennifer and know that the end may just be the beginning.
Here is Lil singing a little MJB:
