To tell you the truth I wasn’t aware of Percival Everett’s novels until I heard about Angela Bassett making the movie adaption of his book “Erasure”, her directorial debut. So I am going to begin my Everett education with his latest tome I Am Not Sidney Poitier ($10.88) in which the author mixes fictional characters with real-life ones for irreverent results. The story centers around an an 11 year-old orphan who has been saddled with the name of Not Sidney who becomes unbelievable weathly, is adopted by Ted Turner while he also deals with the harsh realities of being black in America.

I have both I Am Not Sidney Portier & Erasure. Not Sidney is my fave of the two.
Mr. Everett is a talented author and very entertaining.
I could see Not Sidney as a movie before Erasure though.

I just finished Erasure and couldn’t get enough of it. I just found out today that Angela Bassett is directing the film. That won’t be an easy to turn it into a movie and keep the spirit and wit of the book. I wish her luck with that. I’ll be in the theaters for it, regardless.
I will probably read Not Sidney next or maybe Glyph.
