We already know that Halle Berry is one sister who can not only command a decent salary but can have her pick of roles in Hollywood. So it’s no surprise that she might be included in The Hollywood Reporter’s Power 100:Women in Entertainment List that’s due out next month. But the bible of the entertainment industry has singled out our girl Halle for an even more prestigious honor, she will receive the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporters 18th Annual Women in Entertainment Breakfast on December 4th. She joins a list of heavyweights who’ve received the award including Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Glenn Close. (In other words, Hollywood royalty). Makes me want to say ‘Go Natalie’ umm I mean Halle (you “Strictly Business” fans know what I mean.)
The editor at The Hollywood Reporter says:
“The complex role that Halle Berry plays in life as a successful, versatile entertainment professional who is committed to furthering the well-being of others, especially minorities, is as inspiring as are her film roles,” THR editor Elizabeth Guider said. “The recognition is also wonderfully fitting in a year in which diversity has been embraced and rewarded at the highest levels of our government and culture.”
Berry is being lauded for giving back to the community but more specifically for her role as the national spokesperson for the Jenesse Center, a non-profit organization that helps families who’ve been the victims of domestic violence. Some of us may have forgotten that the Oscar winning actress has been in both physically and emotionally abusive relationships in the past (and has hearing loss as a result of being beaten by a boyfriend). But although it has been years since she was in that situation Berry hasn’t forgotten and has been working to help others who’ve been in that situation. Wouldn’t it be great if Rihanna was do her part helping women/families of domestic violence a decade from now?
