Forget dressing the hot new ingenue, starlet, or one-hit wonder, fashion designers are set their sights on a more historic event, dressing the future First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama and her daughters, for the Inuaguration. Sure, we knew that designers would be interested, but Wednesday’s WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) devoted an unprecedented amount of pages to the possibilities (the cover and 21 options inside and 8 options for the girls).
Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuiller and Tuleh have dreamed up some classy options. But there are definitely some interpretations that she should avoid. Take Christian Lacroix’s vampire meets cat ensemble, Betsey Johnson’s flag inspired bar wench number, Zac Posen’s ode to antebellum style and Koi Swannagate’s snowflakes on parade. While Sasha and Malia should run away fast should Bonnie Young bring her designs by.
The fashion world will wait with baited breathe to see what the future First Lady will choose. I think whatever she wears will be fine as long as she trusts her own instincts. In fact, she may do well to stick with her go-to designer, Maria Pinto and let the designers keep this fantasy-based frocks lock securely in their imagination.

I love your take on those designs. My favoites are Marc Jacobs, Rachel Roy and Michael Kors. Here’s a link to the WWD slide show to view all of the designs. http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/dressing-the-first-lady-1875632#/slideshow/article/1875632/1876144
Yes, some of them were a bit psycho.
