Have you ever gone into a salon and brought a picture with you? You wanted to look just like Halle Berry or Rhianna? Literally… You thought that with that haircut you would become them. Then you realize that once you have the cut, you look nothing like them. Well, there’s a lesson in all that. It all comes down to face shapes. The dream haircut, must be a haircut that makes your features appear balanced and slimmer.
In the world of beauty, there is a “perfect” face shape. It is oval and all roads lead there. In other words, whether your face is round, square, heart shaped or oblong, the perfect haircut will make your face look oval.
Here’s some quick tips for each face shape:

For Round Faces
If you have a round face, try a hairstyle that will make your face appear longer. Try a center part or angular bangs. Create the illusion if a longer face by adding long layers to bring the length downward, or create volume at the top of your head and bring the eye upward.

For Square Faces
If this is your face shape, the angles of your face are hard. Soften the hardness with soft waves. Go for longer hair to give your face length. Avoid sharp shapes and asymmetrical haircuts. You should also avoid chin length bobs; they will only emphasize the hard angles.

Hey Michelle!
If you have a round face its better you keep your lengths below your cheek bone. Length will draw your face shape down to thin out the roundness. Follow the suggestions in the blog.

Hi amanda, I think you should visit a local professional hair care consultant. Ask the right questions, refer to my previous blog how to find a hairstylist. Also, try the Nixon hair care system.

Hello Noel,
Love ur blog. I have an oblong face and I’ve tried all the hair styles in this world and I’m tired. I just want to cut my hair and have baby curls. My hair’s very tough and doesn’t relax easily. I live in Korea and so, very far from a black hair dresser which is very expensive. Do you think i should go ahead?
I will also be doing my wedding in December and which hair style should i do? I dont want to uae a tiara, just picks or clips. Thank you.

Hii Noel
I am in the middle of a crisis i want to cut my hair but i want it to be diffrent. I already have a fringe and short hair.Should i get layers

I am not sure how I feel about the whole “oblong faces shouldn’t have long hair” thing. When my hair is shorter, I just feel like my face looks fat. See the benefit of oblong faces are that they are often long and it makes them look thin. Plus long hair makes me look goood. I definitely agree with the side part, volume and fringe though.

Hey Laura!
Yes! Try the layers! Stick to the face shapes and you can’t go wrong

Hi, what about for long faces? I used to have a “pointy chin” and “widows peak”, plus throw in a high forehead (yikes!)
As I’ve aged (grown “wiser” I hope!
, my face is now more oblong (pointy chin seems more “squarish” – widows peak, high forehead and long face – still here).
What hairstyle looks good on me in 2009? (Back in the day, I rocked my ‘ghetto Farrah Fawcet’ and looked beautiful – but the original “Charlies’ Angels” was instyle back then)
Please address and post pics – thanks!

Hi Michelle,
I was just wondering, I would like to have a short hairstyle but my face is oblong with full cheeks. Would something like victoria beckham’s hairstyle work for me or should i just stick to long permed hair?
Thanks!
