Many of us got to know Jaime Foxx when he played memorable characters like Wanda on “In Living Color” but then he became an Academy Award winning “actor” and we sort of forget how inappropriate he can be. Well he recently reminded us that what he thinks is funny may not be hilarious to everyone else. But he acted quickly to remedy the situation by doing a big mea culpa onThe Tonight Show last night.
Foxx is got flack for the comments he and his” Foxxhole” crew made on his SIRIUS Satellite Radio show about teen sensation Miley Cyrus of “Hannah Montana” fame (who also had the #1 movie at the box office last weekend). EURweb.com reported that Foxx said:
“Make a sex tape and grow up. Get like Britney Spears and do some heroin. Do like Lindsay Lohan, start seeing a lesbian, and get some crack in your pipe; catch Chlamydia on a bicycle seat.”
The reason “Foxxhole” is on satellite radio is because they don’t hold back. But Foxx crossed the line when he put a teenager (who is not much older than his own daughter) on blast in such a crude way. It doesn’t matter that Cyrus is white —it is disgusting nonetheless. Y’all know we would be organizing protests if it was one of our girls.
I guess the public firestorm yesterday was building so Foxx knew he had to do something fast—especially since the publicity blitz for his new flick, “The Soloist is in full effect. After Leno asked him if he said something inappropriate Foxx replied:
“I so apologize to [Cyrus], and this is sincere,” he began. “I am a comedian, and you guys know that whatever I say, I don’t mean any of it. [Big laugh from the audience]. And sometimes, as comedians, as we do, we go a little bit too far.
“I have a radio show…We’re really the black Howard Stern. We go at everybody. There was a situation with Miley Cyrus, and I just want to say, I apologize for what I said. I didn’t mean it maliciously. You know I’m a comedian. You know my heart,” he added, turning to Leno.
Then, looking at the camera, “Miley, I apologize, so I’ll call you. I got a daughter too, so I completely understand.”
What does he understand exactly? That Universal and Dreamworks would be highly pissed off if their investment in “The Soloist” was negatively impacted? Or that he knows his remarks where misogynistic? If Foxx sees himself as the black Howard Stern, I am not sure he holds women in high regard. That’s a scary prospect. Plus, y’all know that there have been reports of him and scantily clad women at various parties and behavior like the Birthday Boobie Grab. Does he actually respect women? Or is it all a joke? Hmmm.
All I know is that this sister is looking at you a little sideways now.

I think the problem is that she’s underage. If she was 18, I wouldn’t care at all. You’re right though, if a white guy said this about a young black female entertainer, it would be all over the news. Racism and all. Good point.

He’s troubled and irresponsible and Oscar or not the clock is so ticking on him.
The Foxxhole is a disgrace and African American entertainers need to find more uplifting platforms. No matter how far we have come there is always those that have high visiblity that set us asunder. People get a hold on some power in the media and don’t know what to do with it. I keep hoping that someday one of these more visible actors will use it for extreme and concentrated good. Perhaps in our time and the reference to how he would feel if it were his daughter who is @ 14 …brilliant.
