Okay so there was a little thing called the Presidential Inauguration going on yesterday, so most of us have been a little busy. But since I didn’t make the guest list of any balls I had time to catch the show. And let’s just say it ended with a twist I couldn’t quite believe (or didn’t want to believe).
During the first hour of the show when team members on the ranch and at home were tempted by junk food, most people abstained. But that wasn’t the point. The team who consumed the most calories got a reunion trip on their home turf along with their trainer. Thanks to Carla scarfing down 2,710 calories in one sitting (more than most people are supposed to eat in a day), Joelle got to go back to the Motor City (along with Bob). The irony: Carla is still the biggest sister to appear on the show. She also seemed to enjoy those tempting foods a bit too much (haming it up for the camera and all).
This reunion brought the inevitable exchange between Carla and Joelle about the latter’s lack of engagement in the whole experience. But they got a little gully with it in IMHO (like they were home out of the camera’s reach). Carla was going on and on demanding that Joelle prove she was in the game for both of them. She kept yelling things like “sweat harder.”Joelle just ignored her and tried to focus on their workout. Priceless.
At this week’s weigh-in Joelle dropped six whole pounds (four more than in previous weeks).(The other contestants lost big numbers for the most part with a few in excess of 10 pounds.) But it wasn’t enough to keep her from going below the yellow line. Joining her there was Damien, who only dropped four pounds. You’d think that since Joelle was getting on everyone’s nerves they’d send her packing. Not so fast…
Well folks decided to keep Joelle because she needed it more. Huh? How about, she makes for better television. Damien is a nice guy and we know what happens to nice guys on reality television don’t we? They get sent home. And so it was last night.
But did you see how good he and Nicole looked in the epilogue. They’re both down more than 70 pounds. Fabulous! So in this case this nice guy ends up putting himself first. Can’t wait to see what they look like at the finale.

Joelle and Carla make good televsion, but they also make lousy friends. I was actually embarrassed as I watched Carla scream at Joelle. Carla’s rage is just as troubling as Joelle’s lack of committment and intelligence. Why are these two women friends? What do they like about each other? Why would Carla want to be on The Biggest Loser with Joelle? And why on earth would Carla leave Joelle on the ranch, knowing how Joelle can be? I assume Carla was trying to motivate her friend to step up her game, but the stakes seem too high. Carla literally said Joelle’s staying on the ranch will be a test of their friendship. I can only imagine how these two communicate when the cameras are off. If Carla is as motivated as she seems, why does she need to be friends with someone who does not share such an important attribute? And why does Joelle tolerate being berated and bullied? I think they were picked for the show not only because of their size but also because the producers wanted to add some drama and tension. I only wish Joelle and Carla would not feed the stereotype of the angry, overweight, unmotivated, brain dead black woman. They are so hard to watch.
