Seems like an artist can’t just come out with a new album, they have to have synergy (also known as a hook that will get them more exposure and ultimately sell more music). We already know that Rihanna timed her Diane Sawyer interview to coincide with her new album, “Rated R”. And Janet Jackson will break her silence about her brother Michael’s death and do a sit-down with Robin Roberts next week— to coincide with the release of her “Number Ones” CD. But synergy is not limited to a tell-all interview. Just ask Beyoncé who’s getting a special on one of the biggest days of the year, Thanksgiving (when there’s nothing else on television but repeats and football). She joins the likes of Madonna, Harry Connnick Jr. and Sir Paul McCartney (who’s special will follow Bey’s that same night). Bey and The Beatle will also on ABC, the network that snagged the aforementioned interviews and will air Jennifer Hudson’s “Home for the Holidays” special next month.
Of course Bey’s not doing this just because, she’s got a project too…a special deluxe edition of “I Am Sasha Fierce” which comes complete with a live CD/DVD entitled “I Am… Yours: An Intimate Performance at Wynn Las Vegas”. The Los Angeles Times reported earlier this week that this will be more than just a concert:
The special promises plenty of “intimate” and behind-the-scenes footage of the star, and, according to the commercial, includes the requisite longing look out a hotel window. However, you and your relatives probably shouldn’t expect a post-Thanksgiving dinner step-by-step how-to of the “Singles Ladies” dance.
I suspect Bey will get through the roof viewership (unless the dreaded turkey coma sneaks up on a good portion of us). But apparently this move will also have folks talking Grammy for her efforts. Apparently “I Am Sasha Fierce” was released too late in 2008 to be considered last year but this time around it’s a different story. Now that is what I call the ultimate kind of synergy.
