For all of you who joined in the online campaign to save Mara Brock Akil’s show, “The Game” your efforts may not have been in vain. Although the CW didn’t warm up to Akil’s idea to revamp the comedy into an hour long dramedy, it looks like BET is interested in bringing the show back in some form or another. The network has actually been in talks with CBS Studios (which produces the show) since it was officially canceled back in May. (Maybe those marathons they’ve been running of repeats have been getting decent ratings.)
Bringing back “The Game” would be at least one positive step in the right network for the network better known for its rump shaking videos and low rent reality shows (aka “Frankie & Neffie”) . Adding this show would actually give us some different depictions of sisters. Yeah, I know Mo’Nique’s talk show is coming sometime soon but it remains to be seen what kind of message she’s channeling. On a more entertaining note, “The Game” revival would also give us the answers to some of those questions left from the cliffhanger…how are Melanie and Derwin dealing with his ex and the baby as well as whether Jason stays with his new woman, Camille, or goes back to Kelly. Plus more hilarious one-liners from Wendy Racquel Robinson’s genius depiction of Tasha Mack.
But since the negotiations (all within the same company, Viacom) have been slow moving, the options that attached the actors to the show have already expired. That means that BET would actually have to negotiate with the actors to get them back.(Let’s hope that they aren’t trying to get them at a cut rate.) But there is still a glimmer of hope for “The Game”.
