Do I “Love That Girl”? Not Yet…

I was very excited to hear that TV One had picked up Tatyana Ali’s new sitcom “Love That Girl” which has Martin Lawrence as its executive producer. But I am sad to say that so far I’m more ‘in like’ than ‘in love’ with this new sitcom. For the record I really want to love this show. One of the reason I haven’t been won over yet is the show is more like “Martin” and less like “Girlfriends” or “The Game”. (Even the title sequence reminded of a vintage “Martin” opener sans the wassup voiceover.) TV One has picked up the episodes that have been shot and will air them the week of January 19th so mark your calendars (more on that later). Read the full story

We already know that there’s a dearth of roles out in Hollywood for black women (and women of color overall). When a role did become available a lot of actresses found themselves vying against each other for the same parts. Well, times they are a changing because it seems like sisters are getting tired of waiting and have started to creating roles for themselves. And now they’re using the web to get their ideas out to us instead of relying on some corporate suits to give them the green light. This month, we’re getting two new shows about us within the space of a week. Tatyana Ali (aka Ashley Banks from “Fresh Prince”) stars in “Buppies” will will premiere on BET.com on Tuesday. And “Kindred” which will its NYC launch tomorrow night in NYC (and on a computer near you—see the trailer below). Read the full story
