We thought that we might get some answers yesterday on what really happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna on the night before the Grammy Awards.  But we’ll have to wait yet another month for that (at the very least.) Sure Brown showed up at the appointed time but TMZ reported that his court appearance was over in 4 minutes and 20 seconds—just long enough to get a one month delay. Plus he didn’t even enter a plea. Rihanna wasn’t there (no surprise) but was it disheartening to hear that although an Emergency Order of Protection was issued in the wake of the incident, her lawyer stated that she had no Protection Order in place now. Yeah, I know they are back together (engaged or even married according to some reports) but it is still sobering to watch this turn of events. It’s also quite sad. Read the full story

Congratulations Andrea Lee Kelly, you are no longer married to the R&B crooner. But now he is free and single (a sort of scary prospect, if you ask me). Anyway,People Magazine reports that the two finalized the divorce, filed in 2006, recently. I guess they held out to see how that child pornography case turned out and since the singer was acquitted they can all move on. Read the full story

There is no doubt that 2008 was the year of President-Elect Barack Obama (and Future FLOTUS Michelle Obama too). (Or should I say Obamarama as the folks over at the late, great site Sterohyped used to say.) The historic and successful campaign, the controversies (who can forget The New Yorker cover and Barack the Magic Negro), and the smart, skilled way Michelle won over those who had labeled her an ABW (angry black woman). There is no denying that R. Kelly’s music is infectious. Just the other day I found myself singing along in the car. But I had to stop myself and ask: should I be singing this? Sure, one can argue that In reality, not all people feel the same about the long, drawn-out preamble to this child pornography trial. Yesterday, Debra Triplett who is 49-years-old was arrested, yes arrested, for screaming “Free R. Kelly” to the juror when they got off the elevator. Now she is sitting in jail (unless she comes up with $50K for bail) with a charge of indirect contempt of court. This is a mother and grandmother who is so enamored with this man that she thought it was a good idea to come down to the courthouse and act the fool—talk about a waste of time and money.
