Oscar winner Halle Berry knows she can get the paparazzi to fall all over each other simply by showing up. Last night, she used that power for good by hosting “An Evening of Awareness” for the Jenesse Center at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City. Berry is the national spokesperson for the organization which helps families who’ve been the victims of domestic violence. Just a reminder that her work with this group is one of the reason’s she’ll be feted with the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award next month at The Hollywood Reporter’s shindig celebrating women in Hollywood.

We already know that Halle Berry is one sister who can not only command a decent salary but can have her pick of roles in Hollywood. So it’s no surprise that she might be included in The Hollywood Reporter’s Power 100:Women in Entertainment List that’s due out next month. But the bible of the entertainment industry has singled out our girl Halle for an even more prestigious honor, she will receive the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporters 18th Annual Women in Entertainment Breakfast on December 4th. She joins a list of heavyweights who’ve received the award including Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Glenn Close. (In other words, Hollywood royalty). Makes me want to say ‘Go Natalie’ umm I mean Halle (you “Strictly Business” fans know what I mean.) Read the full story

Read an interesting story in the San Francisco Examiner about a book that focuses on sisters on the silver screen. “Divas On Screen: Black Women in American Film” by Vassar professor Mia Mask. Can’t wait to read it. The book focuses on five women who Mask believes have done a great deal to change perceptions about what is beautiful. The women she chose are surprising, at least to me, because with the exception of Dorothy Dandridge and Halle Berry I wouldn’t have thought of them. The other three are Pam Grier, Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg. Read the full story

If smoke could eminate from a photograph you could see it rising from this shot. Halle Berry is bringing the hotness to Alicia Key’s favorite charity. TheKeep A Child Alive Black Ball took place last night at NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Love the tiny straps, the cutout bodice, and the touches of shimmer.

Every since brotherman made that ill-advised joke about teen queen Miley Cyrus things haven’t exactly been going Jamie’s way (disappointing is putting it mildly when it comes to the box office numbers for “The Soloist”). But why’d Halle go for this makeout session at Spike TV’s “Guy’s Choice” Awards? Was she helping Jamie out or just trying to keep things interesting for herself? Any thoughts?

The odds were against Taraji P. Henson and Viola Davis going into the 81st Academy Awards, but still I couldn’t help hoping that there would be some kind of fluke that would result in one of these sisters winning the award for Best Supporting Actress. And we found out rather quickly that Penelope Cruz would take the prize. But in this new show configuration, it was a pretty cool way to lose (if that makes sense). I think being introduced and saluted being by such luminaries as Eva Marie Saint, Goldie Hawn, Anjelica Houston, Tilda Swinson and Whoopi Goldberg (more or her later) had each of these sisters trying to fend off the waterworks. But throughout the rest of extra-long telecast there was several opportunities for sister sightings (besides that clip of Hattie McDaniel during the same segment) Read the full story

So Halle Berry and Tyler Perry have been tapped as the hosts of the NAACP Image Awards next February. Anybody excited yet? I didn’t think so. The ceremony will kick off the venerable organization’s 100-year anniversary. So now would be the time to make this award show have more grit and relevance. And not just be a forum where you’re nominated for an award just because you’re black or brown. How about you need to be a person of color and good, hell great? Read the full story

Halle Berry was livid that photos of her baby Nailah have ended up in tabloids like In Touch and Life & Style. So she’s suing. Now the photos don’t reveal much but Halle is being a protective mother and apparently she is one of the only celebrities who is. Read the full story

Have you ever gone into a salon and brought a picture with you? You wanted to look just like Halle Berry or Rhianna? Literally… You thought that with that haircut you would become them. Then you realize that once you have the cut, you look nothing like them. Well, there’s a lesson in all that. It all comes down to face shapes. The dream haircut, must be a haircut that makes your features appear balanced and slimmer.
