I know that for many people, the mere image of Flavor Flav at the top of this post caused noses to be turned up, eyes to roll, and mouths to snicker at what will go down in history as, quite possibly, the single greatest example of American absurdity in television history. Particularly, for so called progressive people of color, Flavor of Love has inspired a most venomous sort of hate - the kind that, in the past, was reserved for your Clarence Thomas’, and your Marion Barrys. As you can tell, I can’t get this buffon out of my mind because his influence is becoming pervasive. Today I read that Flav’s 21-year-old son will be the star of the next season of Flavor of Love. So it is obvious to me that this man won’t go away until we tune him, and the shows he’s associated with, out collectively. That may be wishful thinking on my part. But his ubiquitous foolishness got me thinking about those early stereotypes that got our community up in arms. Read the full story
