As one of its many “celeb-reality” series, “Fantasia: For Real” premiered last night on VH1 (10pm EST). The new series follows the life of former “American Idol” winner as she balances family, creates her next album, studies for the G.E.D. and prepares for another run of “The Color Purple”. While it has been more than a minute since Fantasia has recorded a CD, she seems to be ready for action. She teamed up with her mother, Diana Barrino for a few songs at the over the weekend. Perhaps she should seriously consider a Gospel CD while she’s trying to figure things out.

American Idol is back tonight with its circus-like auditions, and the shenanigans of Paula, Randy and the ever-caustic Simon (plus a new judge who may eventually replace Paula). But I won’t be tuning in. I’m done with the show because it jumped the shark for me three or four seasons ago. That’s when what I would like to call the Fox effect started to kick in.
