Here’s something I’d never thought would happen: I am writing about Barbra Streissand and Beyoncé in the same post. I still can’t believe I’m doing it… Anyway, last week The Los Angeles Times reported that Russell Crowe seems to be emerging as the front-runner to star opposite Bey in the fourth iteration of “A Star is Born”. The last one paired Streissand with Kris Kristofferson back in 1976. If Crowe lands the part, he will have beat out a number of other A-listers including Sean Penn and Robert Downey, Jr., among others. No matter who she’s paired with, this might be the high profile part that Beyoncé has been looking—the one that will firmly place her on solid ground as an actress and possibly win her an award. The web is abuzz with the news that blues singer Etta James blasted Beyonce for singing her singing her signature song “At Last” at The Neighborhood Inagural Ball last month. TMZ has the audio tape in which she also takes a swipe at our new President as well. Well, I don’t know about you but something seems strange about all this. Didn’t her son say that she wasn’t well enough to attend the Inauguration? Wasn’t it something about her gastric bypass surgery? Well I guess he didn’t check with his mother. before he issued that statement. Now comes the news that the singer was ‘just joking’. Read the full story

I went to see “Cadillac Records” this weekend and I was concerned when the theater was less than half full. The first weekend grosses ($3.5 million) and its ninth place finish gave me a bad feeling until I realized that these paltry numbers are because the film has a limited release. Translation: put it in less than 1,000 theaters (in this cases 686 screens) and give it a wide release later so that the film and its ensemble can qualify for award season (Golden Globe, SAG (Sreen Actor’s Guild), People’s Choice and Academy Award).
