Sorry Beyoncé, although you showed some acting chops in your turn as blues singer Etta James in “Cadillac Records,” it wasn’t enough for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the folks who do the nominations for the first important award show of the season, The Golden Globes. More disappointing is that Taraji P. Henson’s role in the Christmas release “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” was also overlooked (although the film was not). But one sister did live up to the pre-nomination and that is no other than Viola Davis who has a brief but pivotal role in “Doubt”, which will have a limited release tomorrow. Read the full story

We’ve been reading for months about Beyoncé’s ambitious new CD, you know the one where she’ll reveal her alter-ego, Sasha Fierce. Well today is the day that I Am Sasha Fierce will hit the stores. I don’t know if I’m excited or over it. Don’t get me wrong, I do think that Beyoncé is a pretty good performer and her solo efforts have been much better than I anticipated, but the hype surrounding showcasing the two sides of her personality wreaks of a marketing idea gone wrong. From Fashion Week to the financial meltdown, this fall has been full of highs and lows. When the economy takes a downturn, style trend seem to reflect that. Everyone is scrambling to stay cute and save their pennies. We are recycling our wardrobes and trying to add a few new things that change our look by accessorizing and adding a piece here and there.

I don’t think that any of us judge how successful a singer is by her place on the Billboard chart. In fact, most of us don’t know how hot someone is until they go platinum (or we’ve heard their single a million times and its repeats in our head over and over). But I was surprised when I took a look at Billboard’s list of the top 100 songs of the last 50 years and found only six sisters listed among all those slots. Sadder still, not one of our girls were among the top 20 album list by the magazine for the same time frame. Read the full story

Love her or hate her, we all know that Beyonce is a superstar.
