I decided to watch a few weeks of “Survivor: Tocantins” this season because there were three African Americans contestants. The operative word being “were”. Well, this is the end of week three, and only Taj remains. Folks are dropping like flies and quite frankly, the show it is not all that interesting. I think it has definitely jumped the shark. I am not sure how much longer I can do it. But Taj (yeah the sister from SWV) is trying to hang in there for the long haul so I will try to hang in there with her a bit longer.
Last week, Jerry went along with his tribe and voted the other sister, Candace, off. And this week he had a run of bad luck with an injury during a challenge and some kind of virus which prevented him from eating. And just like that his goose was cooked. There wasn’t even much debate about it. Like the send-off from that game show, Jerry was the weakest link and he knew it. Well, sort of. It looked like he bought it when Coach told him that he wasn’t being considered for elimination. And perhaps he indulged in a bit of wishful thinking when it was suggested that Erinn was going to be sent packing instead.
Meanwhile, Taj and Brendan finagled themselves back onto Exile Island. Taj spoke up first and chose Brendan. And of, course, Brendan took Taj with him again. That raised more than a few eyebrows. These two, from opposite teams, kicked their long-term strategy into play as they shared clues and other information. We’ve got a long way to go before we find out if their strategy works. They just need to survive for several more weeks.
All I can say is Taj given the rapid way black folks are leaving the Tocantins, you may not want to get too comfortable. But hey, you may be able to buck the trend.
