Former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney may be the sister running for the Presidency under the Green Party banner but all eyes are on Gwen Ifill this week. Ifill, is the moderator and managing editor of “Washington Week”, a news and public affairs program on PBS, and senior correspondent for “The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer”. She will moderate Thursday’s debate between Vice Presidential nominees Governor Sarah Palin and Senator Joe Biden. And I suspect more people may tune in to watch this debate than last week’s match-up between Presidential nominees Obama and McCain. Read the full story

A few weeks ago I heard that Michigan Republicans were going to have officials at polling places to make sure that anyone who is facing (or already experienced) foreclosure didn’t try to use their current (or old) address to vote. According to today’s The New York Times this is not is not an isolated incident. In fact, this is an issue in all the other so-called swing states too like Ohio, Florida and Colorado. But I am sure that it won’t stop there. Read the full story

I don’t know about you but I am sick of hearing about how sisters are last on the list when the discussion involves white men and women as well as black men. But a recent article in The American Prospect caught my eye. Besides the usual stats, what struck me was how sisters don’t seem to be getting ahead. Actually, an argument actually can be made that we’re actually losing some ground. The truth is that we earn a mere .63 for every dollar earned by a white man. And nearly one million of us earn less than the minimum wage. Depressing huh? Read the full story

File this under the never-ending story. Just when we thought the Kwame Kilpatrick Detroit mess was behind us comes word that his co-defendent Christine Beatty turned down the deal offered to her today. We haven’t heard a lot from Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice lately. I guess she is ascribing to the saying “if you can’t say something nice than don’t say anything at all…” when it comes to the Republican ticket. Anyway, after nearly eight years in the White House this sister is calling things as she sees them. Read the full story

Detroit’s Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has finally seen (or was dragged into) the light. He is going to jail for four months and will resign from his post. This comes after he stubbornly held on to his job through seven months of scandal and saw the governor of the state look into holding hearings to forcibly remove him from his job. He will also have to pay $1 million in fines and serve five years probation. This is not much more than a slap on the wrist but I am sure that it does wound his pride and legacy as Detroit’s Hip-Hop Mayor. Last month, I wrote on a small blog post about Bernice and MLK III suing their baby brother Dexter because they wanted the books of The Estate of Martin Luthur King opened. There was talk of financial misappropriation. Now, their little brother strikes back and has countersued his siblings. Read the full story

It’s official, Kwame Kilpatrick is a fool with a big ego. We’ve known it all along but a judge let him know that his antics, you know not obeying the rules and things like that, are worthy of jail time. It’s only one day. But somehow we know that this brother will continue to take down everyone who surrounds him. Read the full story
