Jaden Smith, Will and Jada’s youngin’, is about to blow up in the reboot of “The Karate Kid” due out this June. The eleven year-old’s already picking up honors for the role and the film isn’t out yet. He was in Vegas on Wednesday to receive the Breakthrough Male Star of 2010 at ShoWest, an award given by movie owners. I believe the hype because the trailer is just that good.

Model Amber Rose helped kick off L.A. Fashion Week earlier this week by hosting the Gen Art L.A. Fashion Alumni Celebration at the Roosevelt Hotel. The idea was to honor designers who have shaped the fashion community including: Brigid Catiis, Grey Ant and Wren among others. This was a solo Rose affair since Kanye was nowhere in sight.

Okay every time “A Low Dirty Shame” comes on I’m always reminded how much I like Salli Richardson-Whitfield. But our girl continues to do her thing over on the Syfy Network where she is going into her fourth season of playing Allison Blake on “Eureka”. She was at the network’s upfront yesterday ( in a great green dress) to unveil the new season of her show and hear about the rest of the network’s lineup. New shows of “Eureka” don’t start until July, but check out Syfy.com to view some full episodes.

A little rain can’t keep a Princess down. This weekend Anika Noni Rose’s character, Princess Tiana, was officially inducted into The Disney Princess Royal Court. The ceremony was held at New York City’s New York Palace Hotel where she joined a host of other legendary characters including Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan and Snow White in this historic group. The event celebrated the release of the “The Princess and the Frog’s” DVD and Blu-Ray release today ($29.99-$44.99).. And I say pick it up. This is definitely a movie you want to have in your collection if you have a daughter, niece, goddaughter or you want to honor the little black girl within.

We don’t get to see actress Nia Long in her role as Roberta Tubbs on “The Cleveland Show” but I definitely like seeing her at an event that supports and uplifts women with breast cancer. This weekend, Long participated in the 14th Annual L.A. County Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure along with Sharon Lawrence and a host of other woman, who probably are not famous— but they deserve accolades just the same.

Beyoncé spent part of yesterday standing by her man, Jay-Z, as the New York Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Barclays Center at Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn finally got underway. And her hubby needs all the support he can get since this controversial project, which will also be the home of the Nets, isn’t exactly winning everyone in the neighborhood over. Nevertheless, it looks like downtown Brooklyn is definitely about to be transformed.

Model, activist and author, Waris Dirie, was in Madrid yesterday for the premiere of the movie based on her memoir, “Desert Flower”. The film which stars another supermodel, Liya Kebede, tells the story of Dirie’s journey from Somalia—where she endured female genital mutilation (FGM) at the age 5 and was sold into marriage at 13—to her rise to prominence as a world famous model. Dirie now runs an eponymous foundation to bring attention to the continuing practice of FGM, and hopes to raise awareness and also bring about its end. From what I can tell, the movie hasn’t opened here in the U.S but I do hope that Dirie finds a US distributor for this film. And from the looks of the trailer, Kebede looks like she’s doing a good job. Check it out below: Read the full story

When actor/director Forest Whitaker took to the stage on Sunday night, it seemed that he left a few things behind, namely a significant number of pounds. I wonder if it’s in preparation for his new role in the “Criminal Minds” spin-off? The odds are pretty strong that CBS will pick up his pilot come fall. In the meantime, this brother is keeping busy. Last night, he was here on the East Coast for the opening of “Our Family Wedding” in which he stars along with America Ferrara, Lance Gross, Carlos Mencia and Regina King. Although it seems quite a bit like a Black/Latin version of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?”, I may see it for the cake fight between Whitaker and King alone.

Actress Kerry Washington had the day off from “Race” so she was free to join the President and First Lady at the White House yesterday for the International Women’s Day Reception yesterday. Former “American Idol” alum Katharine McPhee performed while Madeline Albright delivered a few words.

It was nice to see Stacey Dash pop up in those last few episodes of “The Game” before it signed off of the CW last year. Not sure whether she’ll be reprising her role once production begins again. In the meantime, however, she’s got a couple of projects in pre-production and is busy being a sister about town. She looked stunning at Elton John’s 18th Annual AIDS Foundation Academy Award Party held this weekend.
